Who should upgrade from Avigilon Control Center (ACC) 3.8 to ACC 4.0?

Anybody who requires a new feature of ACC 4.0 should upgrade, a full list of all the new features is outlined below. Anybody who needs to record a 3rd party IP camera, an Avigilon 8MP-HD-DOME-360, or an Avigilon 8MP-HD-DOME180 has to upgrade to ACC 4.0. All upgrades to ACC 4.0 are available at no additional charge if a system already has a license for ACC 3. Upgrades from ACC 3.8 preserve all video and settings, servers must be upgraded to ACC 3.8.2.6 first to allow upgrade to ACC 4.0.

How does an upgrade from ACC 3.8 to ACC 4.0 work?

The server will remain online recording new footage in ACC 4.0 format during the upgrade which begins immediately after the installation process completes. While new footage is recorded in the ACC 4.0 format, the old footage is re-indexed. During re-indexing the old recorded footage cannot be played back. Once re-indexing is complete (potentially up to 34 hours for a 5TB server) all data is available in the ACC 4.0 format. All video and event information is maintained, can be backed up, and supports all ACC 4.0 features. An option is available during installation to erase all old video if desired; system settings and configuration are always maintained during an upgrade.

The upgrade from ACC 3.8 to ACC 4.0 performs two passes over the recorded footage, throughout the upgrade process the NVR will have an icon indicating the upgrade is taking place. During the first pass over the recorded footage the timeline for the older data will be empty, during the second pass the timeline will be updated as the upgrade is completed. The first pass could take up 17 hours for 5TB server, during this period the timeline will not show any recorded events or footage.

Can you run a mixture of ACC 3.8 and ACC 4.0?

Cameras, Clients, and Servers cannot communicate between ACC 4.0 and any previous versions of ACC 3.8, 3.6, or 3.4. All components in a system that need to communicate must run the same generation of ACC firmware and software. The server software must be manually updated using the installer available from www.avigilon.com/support/software, client machines are prompted for an automatic upgrade once an upgraded server is on the network and all Avigilon cameras will upgrade their firmware automatically once the server has been upgraded.

Avigilon Control Center 4.0.2.0 contains support for English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. By default the software will use the set Windows Default langauge if supported, the language can also be manually changed by following the instructions available in the Avigilon Control Center Client User Guide available at www.avigilon.com/support/manuals
