You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the design and implementation of the next generation of Avigilon's market-leading high-definition surveillance system. The electrical design components of the surveillance system include elements of

  • support circuitry for high-density, I/O-intensive FPGAs
  • high-speed digital signaling including DDR SDRAM, Ethernet, and high-throughput data acquisition
  • specification and use of proprietary electrical interfaces that support modular design
  • high-speed, low-noise analog signal conditioning
  • high-speed clock driver design for image sensors
  • high-efficiency power supply design
  • digital and analog control loops
  • precision timing generation
  • electro-mechanical actuators
  • design for manufacturing of cost-sensitive, mass-market products
  • design for compliance with applicable EMC and safety standards

Your ability to work productively with vendors, manufacturing personnel, programmers and designers from other disciplines is essential. Proven dedication, tenacity, and the ability to deliver results is a requirement.

Your tasks will likely include but are not limited to

  • the design of electronic circuits using EDA tools including SPICE simulators and schematic capture and PCB layout tools
  • the construction of prototypes for purposes of testing circuit designs as needed, using workbench tools and test equipment
  • the testing and troubleshooting of first revisions of electronic circuit boards
  • the creation and maintenance of assembly trees and bills of materials
  • the creation and maintenance of design documentation
  • the estimation of work and cost required to complete proposed tasks and the tracking of the work and cost as the tasks progress
  • the testing and mitigation of compliance issues in new designs

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven ability to design reliable electronic products using the latest technologies
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits, and the ability to critically assess and optimize the performance of designs
  • Hands-on testing and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to interact with vendors to optimize component selection in new designs
  • Strong soldering and improvisation abilities
  • Familiarity with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and PCB layout software
  • Ability to use scripting languages such as Python, TCL, etc. to automate everyday tasks
  • Understanding of embedded C, FPGA development, and revision control (SVN or CVS)
  • Ability to work with certification labs to meet EMC and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for electronics and a pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to learn quickly and independently, and work within a team



Candidates with the following education are preferred:

  • Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Diploma of Technology in Electronics

At least 5 years experience designing products for manufacture.
